How to run RealEye studies without eye-tracking and facial coding option


There is a way to run RealEye studies without the eye-tracking or facial coding feature. That means a webcam is not required to participate in such a study. It can be used as a control group for a traditional eye-tracking study.

You can activate this version in 2 ways:

  1. Choosing the "RealEye Mouse-tracker (Simulated eye-tracking; DISABLES Facial Coding and head position control)" from the "Eye-tracking Setup" in the Study setup
  2. Adding a "reio-webcam-disable=1" variable to the participation link.


In this mode, the cursor position is treated as the gaze, so you'll get cursor heatmaps and recordings. That's why you should run studies with and without eye-tracking separately or filter the results on aggregated heatmaps:
